For the first time, Grenada will be hosting not one, but two weekends of sailing in this year’s Festival. The organisers have decide to stage both the international yacht-racing event, coupled with the traditional work boat regatta. Starting in the last weekend of January, this is the 17th year that the Festival has run, and it promises not to disappoint.
The first event kicks off on Friday 29th January from the Island’s southern coast in the Port Louis Racing Series, at the Camper & Nicholson’s Port Louis Marina. Organisers have changed the format from last year, with new and longer courses, including an extended South Coast Ocean Triangle. This should provide more challenging racing to attract bigger yachts and the strongly competitive crews based in the region. A team of internationally accredited judges and officials will oversee the racing, making it Caribbean Sailing at its best!
The second event will take place the following weekend, on February 6th and 7th at the Grand Anse Beach. There, the yearly Grenada Sailing Festival Digicel Work Boat Regatta will take place as part of Grenada’s Independence celebrations, which should attract visitors and locals alike. As well as watching two days of highly competitive sailing action between the local communities, visitors will be able to enjoy arts and crafts, live entertainment, traditional food and much much more! Whether you are a keen sailor, or just want to soak in the lively atmosphere that the Island has to offer, this will be a fantastic celebration for all to enjoy.
