The Grenada Chocolate Company is a well-respected, highly ethical company which creates one of the world’s most delightful organic dark chocolate. Mott Green, college dropout and now founder of the Grenada Chocolate Company, moved to Grenada from the USA twenty years ago. He soon realized that there were a lot of cocoa trees grown on the island and their produce was not being harvested. This got him thinking about producing organic chocolate rather than have the beans go to waste.
His first steps involved the creation of low energy machines and solar cookers, followed by designs for the water pumps he would need to make his idea a reality.
Eleven years after his arrival in Grenada Mott, along with three friends (Doug Browne, Joyce Smart and Edmond Brown), went into the business of chocolate production.
The company started out by producing chocolate in a small way for local consumption, and gradually increased production and sorted overseas markets. It now exports to several countries worldwide and in February of this year 50,000 bars of prize winning chocolate was shipped to Europe.
This is the story of Mott Green how the Grenada Chocolate Company got off the ground. A true inspiration and proves that with dedication and love for what you do, anything is possible.
This is Grenada’s Willy Wonka!
